Welcome

Hi, I’m Karen Baikie, and I am a therapist, trainer and supervisor working in private practice in Crows Nest, in Sydney, Australia.

I am passionate about supporting people to come to a better, more compassionate understanding of themselves and others. For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in why we are the way we are, and from there I became interested in how we can make changes that really last. I love helping people to overcome difficulties and recurring life patterns that limit them, and move forwards into a more fulfilling, meaningful and joyful life, both individually and in their relationships.

As a registered Clinical Psychologist, Certified Hakomi Therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, my approach includes the use of mindfulness and somatic techniques for healing. My specialties and areas of particular interest include trauma and abuse, attachment difficulties, relationships, parenting, depression, anxiety, fertility and gut-brain health, although I see people with many other emotional issues as well. My belief is that I can best help by supporting my clients to find their own answers at their own pace, and the best way I know to do that is to turn toward the inner wisdom of the body in mindfulness, where most of the answers already lie. My focus is to provide a safe, empathic space for clients to become curious and make discoveries about themselves, as well as to equip them with the resources they need to overcome their difficulties.

Whilst I have learned a variety of therapy approaches over the years, and use different modalities in my work, the model that most informs my practice and underlies my philosophy is Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychology. Hakomi is a gentle, respectful, mindfulness-based approach to working with early attachment wounds and trauma, and changing ingrained life patterns. I have found that by reconnecting body and mind, in mindfulness, many clients experience profound changes that come quite naturally from the work we do and tend to last.

In addition to becoming certified as a Hakomi therapist, I continued my journey into teaching, and am now a Certified Hakomi Trainer with the Hakomi Institute Pacifica Team. I am currently involved in the Sydney Professional Hakomi Training and Hakomi Embodied and Aware Relationships Training (H.E.A.R.T.), as well as running workshops on various aspects of Hakomi and H.E.A.R.T. around Australia.

I also enjoy supporting psychologists and other helping professionals to find more fulfilment in their work through supervision. As a registered clinical psychologist, board-approved supervisor, and Hakomi Trainer, I am able to provide supervision towards psychologist registration, registrar program supervision, specialist clinical supervision, and supervision towards Hakomi certification.
